Close to 250 hockey players from all over the country descended on the
New England Sport Center in Marlboro. Each of them had one thing in common – a
love of hockey. Each had one goal in mind – a chance to be invited
to Boston Bruins Training Camp in September of 2006. Only three – one
forward, one defenseman and one goalie – would be chosen. Brad Park,
Terry O’Reilly and Gerry Cheevers put each of them through a grueling
battery of basic hockey skills, shooting, skating and stickhandling. The
players were rated based on time and accuracy. After weeks of testing,
the top scoring 18 forwards, 12 defensemen and 6 goalies were chosen.
They would attend a weeklong camp of grueling scrimmages and team on team
competition. At the end of the week the top three would emerge.
Arriving at camp the players are separated into two teams, the
white, to be coached by Brad Park and black, to be coached by Terry O’Reilly.
The first Day of competition featured a net relay race where members of
each team, two at a time, would push the net the length of the ice, until
all teammates had gone. The white team won a mile.
In the stands, Gerry Cheevers, Wayne Cashman and Bob Sweeney
rated the individual players. The scrimmage began and the players came
right of the gate flying down the ice piling up shots and hitting everything
in sight. Excellent goaltending by kept the score 1-0 for the black team
until the final seconds when Jon Hedberg skated around the entire black
team and managed to squeeze a knuckleball through goalie, John McKersie’s
pads. The game ended in a 1-1 tie with the white team picking up 8 valuable
team points and the black just three for the day. After the judges conferred
the scores were posted. Forward Adam Campana , Defenseman Jamie Carroll
and Goalie Mark Palatino, all from the white team were the top point getters.
It became obvious to all the players that to emerge in the final three
you would have to be a team player.

This guy played in the nhl with pitt and other teams. He at least played maybe 20 games in the nhl. Why the hell is he allowed to try out? its dosent sound fair to me. |

The show is great start but if you look at the points it seems as though those that were sent home were mostly from the white team because the team points hurt them. Sort of one sided isn't it? |

Bill S. Burlington, VT | 2006-11-14 11:25:52 | | Wow, you are an idiot. The show isn't all about finding that diamond in the rough who will go onto NHL Stardom. It is about the dream of being an NHL hero. It is about the players, the teamwork and the dreams. I'm sure most of these guys know that they will never make it, but at least they can say they tried. The show rocks. I love the group of guys and the storylines. I really wish it was an hour long each episode. Keep up the good work and I hope that there is a season 2. |

Daniel Berman, Brookline-TV Brookline, Massachusetts | 2006-11-09 05:25:24 | | I wanted to send out a thank you too the entire 'Be A Bruin' team. Recently, Executive Producer Timothy Egan made a special guest appearance on the Brookline-TV sports program called 'Sports Time' hosted by Jason Burke. Egan talked about the future of this first ever reality TV series on the world of professional hockey making it's debut on NESN, November 2nd.
Taking on people who have probably dreamed about becoming part of one of the most historic teams in NHL history. The entire concept is one of the best and original ideas yet for television.
The first episode is sensational and looking forward too seeing future programs. It's amazing just how many young talent is out there and wants to "Be-A-Bruin" (see calendar for showtimes).
